Current Event Trips

 

These trips are designed to allow participants to see firsthand the hot topics of the day. Topics might include global warming, fair trade, sustainable development, or globalization. Below is a sample description of trip focused on globalization.

What is it like to work in a sweatshop? What do structural adjustments really do? What it is like to live in a small country with an enormous external debt? Why can’t rural farmers make it anymore? Participants in this trip will hear from locals who live with these issues everyday, and who speak from a variety of perspectives.

Our staff includes several individuals involved in international economic development efforts, from creating sustainable tourism to developing long-term plans for managing protected areas.

This trip focusing on globalization and development will benefit from the involvement of these active development professionals on a local and international level, as well as the insights of academics involved in the critical evaluation of globalization and economic development.
